THE RECENT COURT-MARTIAL. SENTENCES IMPOSED. The sentences imposed by tlie court- ' martial upon the three military reservists tried on Thursday aro as follow: Edward Mortimer Murane, two years' hard labour. John Roberts, IS months' hard labour. Andrew Kennawav Henderson, nine months' h;ird labour. Colonel Chafley, officer commanding the Canterbury military district, who confirmed the sentences, explained to a "I'ress" reporter on Saturday the reasons for tho disparity in the terms of imprisonment indicted. Murane, he said, had for months evaded service and caused considerable trouble to tho military authorities in effecting his arrest. on the other hand, had caused no trouble but had come forward promptly. Henderson J-ad also caused no trouble, and, in addition, was the only accused who submitted himself to medical examination before his trial for the purpose of ascertaining whether lie was fit to undergo a sentence of imprisonment; also, lie had pleaded guilty and e\ idence had been given that though he had held his anti-militarist views for several years he had never expressed them publicly.
