THE FALLEN AND WOUNDED. PERSONAL NOTES. Mrs J Morrison, of Christchurch (late of Geraldine) has received advice from Base Records that her son, Private W. J. Morrison, is being invalided home. Private Morrison, who left with the 17th Reinforcements, saw a good deal of the fighting on the "Western front, and was wounded in the battle of Messines. Private Alexander Weir (killed) was a son of Mr A. Weir, of 20S Worcester street,'and had been. secretary of the Saddlers' Employees' Union, and at one time an official of the Christchurch Working Men's Club. The deceased was employed in the saddlery department of the New Zealand Farmers' Co-opera-tive Association, Ltd., and was very popular. Mr C. H. Evans, Richmond terrace, Now Brighton, has received word that his son. Lance-Corporal Evans, who was severely wounded at Ypres on October 4th, is' being invalided home. Cable advice has been received that Lieutenant T. J. Ennu> has been discharged from the Officers' Convalescent Home, Brighton, and is now on leave

in England. Lieutenant Ennis was wounded in the left shoulder and lung, in November last, and has since that lime teen in the Fuiham and Brockenhurst Hospitals respectively. He left New Zealand as 0.C., N.Z. Field Artillery, lGth Reinforcement!-. Mrs A. C. Small, 151 Victoria street, Ran-nora, has received word that- her husband was severely gassed on I cbru- i arv 20th, and is now in hospital in France. Private Small left with tho 21st Reinforcements. Mrs E. TV. Elwood, 149 Salisbury street, late of Perth street, Richmond, lias received word that her son, Private E. H. Elwood, of the 17th Reinforcements, has been wounded and gassed. It is tho second occasion oil which he has been wounded. Prior to enlisting, he was employed by T. Bates and Co., Ferry road. According to private advice received by Mr C. Browne, oi' the Auckland firm of E. C. Browne and Co., Private Theodore C. Browne has had both legs amputated as a result of gunshot wounds in the right leg and left knee. Private Browne left New Zealand with the 27th Reinforcements, in the infantry section. He was educated at the Auckland Normal School, arid later, at the Seddon Memorial Technical College. Prior to enlisting he v,-as engaged in farming near and in the Taupo district, fie is £'2 years of age. Another brother, Private E. R. Browne, is at present on active service. Mrs J. B. Ccndliffe, of Russell's Flat, has received advice that her husband, Private J. I>. Condliftc, who left with the 29th Reinforcements, was admitted to hospital in France, on February 19th, suffering from slight head wounds.

Mrs Trenbcrth, 10 Westminster street, St. Albans, has: received word that her brother, Private Ablett, has been admitted to hospital in Franco suffering fro in disordered action of the heart. Prior to leaving with the 29th Reinforcements, Privato Ablett was emploved us a carter by Smith and Smith, Ltd. Sergeant Richard Burman Turner, who died yesterday morning, "was the second son of Mrs (Nurse) Turner, 25 Princes street, Woolston, and the third to lay down his lil'o for his country, one son having been killed _on the Somme. and another at Mcssines. Sergeant Tumor, who was 21 years of ago, left with the Canterbury Infantry Main Body, as a private, and was through all the fighting on Gallipoli till just before the evacuation, when he was attacked by dysentery, and had to be invalided from tho Peninsula. He went to France with- the Main Body, and was there promoted to sergeant, and transferred to tho 2nd South Canterbury Infantry Battalion.. He saw thirteen months' service in. France, and then had to leave the trenches, having through exposuro contracted lung trouble. He wa.3 invalided home, arriving on August 26th last year. Prior to enlisting Sergeant Turner was employed by Messrs Hieks and Co., jewellers, High street. He was a member of the Linwood Football Club aand the choir of St. John's Church, Woolston. A scrvico will be held in the church to-morrow afternoon, after which the funoral, a military one, will take place. Much sympathy is felt for Mrs Turner in her bereavement. An ex-soldier who left Christ-church with the Main Body writes to us as follows: —Main Body men of tho Ist Canterbury Regiment will regret to hear of the death of one of (heir members, Richard Burman Turner. The dead soldier was one of the most popular men in No. 3 platoon, and was right through the training in the Addington and fiockburn camps prior to leaving for Egypt. He was at the landing at Gallipoli, and was also engaged in tho heavy at Cape Helios and Bay. I>ick Turner by -his continued cheerfulness under all'conditions ondeared himself to all in his regiment, and represented the best typo of Now •Zealand soldier.

Mrs A. P. Gall, Burnett street, Ashburton, has received advice that her husband, Lance-Corporal P. ,M. Gall, has been transferred to the Walton-on-Th,mies Hospital. Lance-Corporal Gall left with tho 18th Reinforcements. Mr AY. "Wilkinson, Chertscy, lias been advised that his son, Private T. V. Wilkinson, u-ns gassed and sent to lirockenhmsfc General Hospital on February 19th Private AVilkfnson left with tho 14th Renforcements. Cable advicc has been received that Sergeant E. Stevens, who was wounded in I< ranee, is being invalided home, bergeaijfc Stevens is tho oldest son of ALr D. Stevens, of tho Marino Hotel, Sumner. Prior to enlisting he was on the teaching stall of tho Sumner Borough School. Sergeant-Major Frederick Holmes, who died at the Auckland Hospital last week from heart disease, had served in tho Imperial Army for 23 years, being attached to the Coldstream Guards, while he had taken part in the Boxer rising in China, tho Boer War, saw service in India, and went to England twice during the present war with JNew Zealand Expeditionary Forces. After leaving the Imperial Forces, he was in charge of the police at llarotonga, and later came to New Zealand in charge of tho 2s T iuo Islanders.
