Russell stated today that the question whether free hospital treatment should be given to the v.ives of soldiers on active service had been under consideration for some time. It had been the rule for some time to allow wives of soldiers free admission to State maternity homes, and in the concessions granted to wives of soldiers bv tho Financial Assistance Board provision was mado for assistance in tho case of serious surgical operations being required. The Minister announced that Cabinet had now approved of a proposal that under proper safeguards, of which due notice would be given by the Minister for Hospitals to tho various Hospital Boards, wives of soldiers on active service might ho treated fro 3 in public hospitals. ,
