Menzies, medical officer of the Mangonui Hospital, has been appointed medical superintendent of the Clyde Hospital, Central Otago. Captain Griffin. Caotain Chisholm, Dr. Honor, and Mr G. H. Mason, were passengers from Wellington by \esteiday's ferry steamer. Mr It. O. Page, May's road, lias received advice that he has passed his •final examination for tho B.Sc. degree, and has won a senior scholarship ill chemistry, and also in pure mathematics. Mr George Girling-Butcher has resigned his position as secretary and organiser of the Now Zealand Catholic Federation, with which he lias been officially connected since its inception. Tlie resignation, which takes effect as from May 31st, is dictated by personal reasons. Tho lato Mr James AVcodham, who died a few months ago, was one of tho pioneer members of Trinity Congregational Church, and was a_ member and worker continuously for 53 years. At tiie morning service at Trinity Church to-morrow a memorial tablet is to be unveiled by the Rev. Harry Johnson, of Auckland, formerly of this city. Sergeant G. V. T. Prior to enlisting, Scrgsant Moore was postmaster at Marton Junction. News has been received in Napier that Mr M. W. P. Lascclles, Y.M.C.A. Commissioner, was on board the steamer which was torpedoed while proceeding to Egypt. Nine hundred lives were lost, but Mr Lascelles iortunately managed to keep afloat until rescued. He is now in Cairo. Prior to taking up Y.M.C.A. work Mr Laseelles was acting as Baptist pastor at Timaru. Tho Rev. Father O'Sullivan, of Napier, who has been transferred to Teinuka, was on Monday night the lecipient of a cheque for a substantial amount from his parishioners, in addition to travelling requisites from _ *he school-chiidrcn and a gold wristlet watch from personal friends. Before taking up work in Temulca, Father O'Sullivan intends to spend a holiday in Australia. Second-Lieu tenant C. F. Forsdicic, who has been awarded one of the oversea sailor and soldier scholarships given by the Rhodes trustees and the Kitchener National Memorial 1' und, is the only soil of Mrs "W. Forsdick, of Victoria avenue, Mt. Eden, Auckland, and is in his twentv-fiftli year. He is ail old bov of tho* Auckland Grammar School| and attained some distinction as a footballer, being captain of the school senior fifteen in 1910. wards he took a course in electrical ensjinering at the Auckland University College, ar.d oil completing it was made a member of the Society of Electrical Engineers. He left New Zealand in October, 1915. as a private in the New Zealand ltifle Brigade, was made a sergeant in Egypt, and later gained his commission in the field. Le was wounded in the fighting at Passchendaele on October 4th, and it was found necessary to amputate his left hand. He is at present studying electrical engineering, in terms of his scholarship, at the Imperial College. South Kensington.
