THE FALLEN AND WOUNDED. PERSONAL NOTES. Advice has been received that Mr A. F. Nicoll, the well-known New Zealand artist, who left New Zealand with the No. 6 Howitzer Battery (sth Keinforcements), is returning with an early draft. Mr Nicoll was so severely wounded during the advance on tho Sorame in September, 1916, that it was found necessary to amputate his right leg at the thigh. Tho following communication has been received by Mr J. Sullivan, of Bayfields Instate, Methven, concerning his son, Lance-Corporal F. J. Sullivan, who was recently killed in action. It is from Second-Lieutenant A. H. Bogle: —"Long before you got this you will havo heard the sad news of your son's death. 1 am well aware that no words of mine can do much to eaeo your trouble, but I offer you the heartiest sympathy, both from myself and from all his mates, with whom ho was a prime favourite. 1 was up in front marking out a job with him and two more. A shell came over and killed him instantly, and wounded another. It was a very exposed place, and dangerous to attempt to bring him in without needless sacrifice of more lives. So J buried him where he lay, and have marked the spot l)oth from some concrete dugouts near-by and by a wooden cross, with full particulars, and will send a report to the Graves Registration Unit. Lt may be some satisfaction to you to think that he died doing his job like a soldier and a man. He was a cheery, happy lad, and will be long remembered by all those who had the privilege of soldiering with him. Again assuring you of all sympathy." "CAR LOOKS LIKE NEW." This is what everybody says after polishing the car with "Wood Food" (Is at Minson's). Try it on your machine, or piano also. The finest polish made! M 6302
