Mrs E. Wilson, of Balcairn school, has received acfvice that she was successful in the recent departmental examinations.

Miss I.uli, Old'.idgo has received advice that slio has received her M.A. degree. Miss Oldridge has recently been appointed to the staff of the Palmerston North High School.

Major Baigcnt, Rev. Dr. Kelly, Mr E. S. Luttrell, Rev*. Howard Elliott, Major Cameron. Captain Home, Lieut.Colonel Crcswell, Captain Moir, He v. G. lv. GJ.asson, Rev. H. 11. Ralph, Rev. C.'L. Carr, and Rev. A. E. Hunt, were passengers from Wellington by yesterday's forry steamer.

'I'llpro was a largo gathering of the Roman Catholic clergy, including his Lordshin Bishop Brodie, on the Christchurch vaibvay. station last-evening, to say farewell to tiie llev. Father R. Cronin, late of Darfield, who has transferred to the Sydney diocese. Dr. Kennedy and tho Rev. Father p'Boyle accompanied the departing priest to Lyttelton. Father Cronin came out from Manchester somo three or four years ago, and lias been since then in charge of the Darfield district, where he was greatly beloved and respected by all.

Miss A. M. Blackctt, who has been on the staff of the Canterbury Public Library during the past seven years, has been appointed chief librarian to the Wanganui Borough Council. Tne Wanganui Public Library lias recently been taken over from the trustees, ; l.d Miss Blackett will re-organise the wholo of the system, and bring the library up-to-date. It is considered that her experience of this work during the re-organisation of the Christchurch Library will be invaluable to the "Wanganui Council. There were a large number of applicants for the position.

On tho evo of his departure from Wellington for Dunedin, a presentation, consisting of a solid silver fruit stand, was made on Monday to Mr Robert A. Ewing, by the Wellington staff of Konipthorno, Prosser and Co.'s Now Zealand Drug Co., Ltd. ,Mr Ewing, who has been acting-manager at Wellington for tho past eighteen months, during the absence of Mr AVm. Jack, on active service, has now severed his connexion with the firm (after an association of 36 years, the greater part of which time ho has been manager at Dunedin) in ordor to give more time to priva+e interests in Dunedin. Mr J. Duff, who has held the position of accountant, taUcs over the acting-man-agership, and Mr A. U. Davis is to fill Mr Duff's position as acting-accountant.

Mr E. I>. Mosley, who was, on Tuesday, sworn in as a stipendiary magistrate, and who leaves to-day for Auckland to take np his new duties, sitting at Te Aroha next Tuesday, was the recipient of a presentation from the members of the Christchurch Bowling Clnb yesterday afternoon. The president, Mr JS. E. Daniels, made the presentation in tho presence of a large gathering of members. In presenting Mr Mosely with a silver cigarette case, and asking •him to accept for Mrs Mosley a silver trinket box, Mr Daniels referred to Mr Moseley's qualifications • for the position to which ho had been appointed, and to his services as a member and as a president of the club. On behalf of tho members he wished Mr Mosley every success in his new sphere. Mr Moslev, in acknowledging the gifts, referred to his .pleasant recollections of his connexion with tho club. He trusted that ho might have the privilege of again becoming a member of the club within a season or two, and said that he was given to understand that there was a possibility thgt he would bo placed in a position to do so. Cheers were given fof Mr and Mrs Mosley.
