(PRESS ASSOCIATION* TELKGRAM.) WELLINGTON. March 7. The Y.M.C.A. War Fund Campaign was opened at a large public mooting iij the Town Hall to-night. The Mayor (Mr J. P. Luke, M.P.) presided. Tho speakers included the Prime Minister, Sir Joseph Ward, Sir James 'Alton, Mr A. H. Hindmarsh, M.l\, aand Mr Harold Uoauchamp (chairman of diroctors of the Dank of New Zealand). Tho speakers heartily praised the Y.M.C.A. for its strenuuu* and successful work throughout all the war iono. These tributes were warmly applauded by tho enthusiastic audience

' Sir Joseph Ward summarised tho big organisation's activities by 6aying that it took the place of the soldiers' Bothers, brothors, and sisters at tho front.

Sir James Allon emphasised tho importanco of the Y.M.C.A.'s aid in maintaining tho efficiency of our soldiers. Ho said the lioarty, human touch of the Y.M.C.A. near the front lino linked the soldiers with their own homes and kinsmen in New Zealand, #nd- tho moral effect was- something which the ordinary military machinery could not givo. Thus the Y.M.C.A. bnd"gimi]ar organisations had extremely important functions in war-winning work. -

. Mr Hindmarsh. remarked that the people of New Zealand were still able to live in luxury. More money was spent on pleasure now than was soent Defore the war.
