AMBULANCE DAY
TO-MORROW'S APPEAL.
To-morrow is Ambulance Day, when 16,00 c) badges must be sold in order to provide for the upkeep of the work of the St. John Ambulance Association and Brigade for another year. No limit is placed on the amount for which a badge may be purchased. Anything and everything will bo accepted, as it is anticipated that everybody will contribute according to their moans. On an average 500 persons are instructed in first aid to the injured and the principles of homo nursing and hygiene year, but as class fees do not cover clnss expenses, it is necessary co make good the deficiency, since if a prohibitive class feo were charged, a /touch smaller number of students would bo the resiilt. Public first aid depots arc established in order to afford means for th'so who have received instruction io apply their knowledge in cases of accident, and these must be maintained. Free ambulance transport is provided in necessitous cases, when certified' by a clergyman, medical practitioner, or responsible person. The upkeep of the St. John Ambulance Brigade, the members of which body, all of whom are highly trained, undertake gratuitous duties at every public gathering, is another charge for which the Association is responsible. Altogether, a sum of from £350 to £400 in voluntary contributions is required each year to enable the work to be carrio:l on.
