HARBOUR BOARD.

MOXTHTA' MEETING

The Lyttelton Harbour Board met yesterday. Present—Messrs A. Kaye (chairman), J. Storry, T. D- Boag, T. A. Blackley, S. K. Sleigh, W. J. Walter, Geo. Soott, H. B. Sorensen, F, Horrell, and Hon. R. Moore, M.L.0., and Dr. Ji. T. J. Thacker, M.P. • The chairman's report, which was received, showod that since the previous meeting £6307 14s 6d had been paid

into the Harbour fund account; that that iund was in debit £1007 18s 4d; that - after the payment of accounts (£71)6 19s) the debit would bo £171-1 17s 4d.

The engineer's report, which was adopted, stated that since February 2ot-h the Canterbury had lifted 20.020 tous of spoil, of which 1*3,470 tons were taken from, the outer channcl, and 4560 tons from inside the moles. Tho Te Whaka had lifted 1120 tons of hard clay and boulders (one woighed 3 tons) from tho inner ends of ISlos. 6 and 7

jetties. Tho new cheesc room was in use during February, and on tho date of the report, was full of cheese- Tho new freezing machine had not arrived. A start had been made with stripping No. 2 jetty to permit of repairs to the west side.

The Sailors Home Committee's report, which was adopted, stated that the Blackball Coal Company had given £10 10s towards the funds of the home, and Messrs R. D. Lamb and Co., Sydney, had instructed the masters of their vessels to advance the interests of the home at all times. Tho agents of the Commonwealth and Dominion Line had given £-5 5s to the funds of the home.

Tho chairman of the Board stated that the contributions received were being put in a separate account, the idea being that in time the interest from it would go a considerable way in providing for the maintenance of the home.

The engineer stated that the contributions were being invested in war bonds.

A letter was received from the Secretary, Marine Department, stating that it had been decided to allow the area to be leased to the New Brighton Solar Salt Works, to be increased from 100 to 200 acre&, subject to the conditions that tiue works are commenced within, twelve months from the granting of the lease, and that the company possessed substantial capital. The chairman said that he was satisfied that the Board was protected in every way.
