SOUTH WAIMAKAEIRI RIVER BOARD.
The South Waimakariri River Board met yesterday. Present —Measra W. P. Spencer (chairman), J. Leslie, A. S. Bruce J. P. W. Leo, C. H. Opie, C. Burgesa, and N. K. Bowden.
It was decided, on the motion of Mr Bowden, seconded by Mr Leslie, to reply to the leseeo 01 Kescrvc that the Boaid cannot see its way to erect, a fence. The overseer reported that there had been one email flood cine© the previous' meeting, but no damage was done, and there was 110 j alteration in the course of the river. Below j the Empire bridge the river was still washing away land, and on lot -5 three acres had been . washed away. Tho overseer estimated that to grub all the Board's reserves adjoining freehold lands, to prepare fire avenue®, would cost £300. Mr Opie moved that the Board should make a epecial visit to the locality where tho river is washing land away, with, the view of adopting somo protective measures. Mr Burgess seconded the motion. The chairman said that the land, affected was eomo of the most valuable m the Board a possession. He thought tnat the < bnrament might assist in any expenditure involved, as if the river continued to mak ® m samf 'direction it would endanger the radW M r h l£wd* n said that Board's jate overseer had expressed the opinion that it be cheaper to allow the land to be washed a ?t y Wao decided to visit the locality on the wan adopted, and it to agreed annum, for two years* and adopted. .
