RAKAIA ITEMS.
- On Friday afternoon tho children and parents gathered in the large room of Rakaia school to do honour to Miss A. " Cross,, who has relinquished the position of first assistant, after several years' servicc. On behalf of the past >. and present pupils, ono of tho senior kins presented Miss Cross with a travelling rug and wished her_ a future ot prosperity. The Rev. I'l. N. Blakiston, chairman of the committee, also spoke. Miss Cross briefly returned thanks. A varied programme of entertainment, arj ranged by tho- children, was presented, and well received. Before dispersing, 'S cheers were given for Miss Cross. ■>-• The llakaia Horticultural Society m>a tend holding their annual autumn sho\\ to-morrow. This year entries have not t_ come in so briskly in the flower section a as in past years, but it is anticipated r . that the show, on the whole, will do d well up to past standards. ■ a e There was a good attendance at the r monthly meeting of the Rakaia Red of Cross Society. Acknowledgments were •e- received from England of work vecen - at ed. The sum of £10 was voted for the irt purchase of invalid foods. j
