FLOWER SHOW.
»—,— SOUTH MALVERN HORTICULTURAL SOCIETY. Perfect weather conditions prevailed for the feto and flower show held in the Glentunnel Domain on Saturday. 'XJio Horticultural Society, formed a lew months ago, has a membership of about one hundred, and its inaugural Autumn Show was an unqualified. success. Those chiefiy responsible for tho carrying out of the function* especially the preaident, Mr John Deans, and tho secretary, Mr A. M. Wilson, have every reason to be satisfied at the result. The show was accommodated in a largo marquee and was attended throughout the afternoon und ovoning by large numbers of visitors to tho fete. The display of vegetables was especially fine, and such as would have done credit to any show in Canterbury. The judges were:—Mr Humm (horticultural section), Miss Sim (home-made section), and Mr L. R. Ellis (writing), and their decisions met with unanimous approval. There was a large luncheon booth on the ground, presided over by Mrs H. Kollinson, who, with a big staff of helpers, provided refreshments and incidentally helped to swell the funds, which are to tie handed over to the Y.M.C.A. Other stalls for the sale of ice-cream, 6oft drinks, fruit, fancy work, and general produoo did a brisk trade, while a number of young ladies, with guessing competitions aud numerous other devices, took a very considerable sum. A programme of 6ports, arranged by Mr J. H. Pearson, was carried 'out during the and a tug-of-war, held in the evening, was won by a, lusty team representing Coalgatc. An auction sale of produce, conducted by Mr Worthington, in his ■usual genial etylo, concluded the proceedings. The fair was brilliantly lighted during the evening by the agents of the Alpha petrol light, who lent their cervices and plant gratis. The secretary and treasurer of the fete Rollinson) lia3 in hand about £200. Tho following is the prize list: —
