V AN INSURANCE SCHEME. (press association telegram.) WELLINGTON, STaroh k. After lengthy negotiations, the Hon. T. M. Wilford, Minister of Marine, announces that lie is able to mako public -the details of a. scheme under which all seamen who run war risks on our transports or other vessels engaged in war work will bo covered against loss due to /enemy agency, and their flependente safeguarded iu case of their disablement. As an indication of how the achem© will work, Mr Wilford sayo:— "I can take the example of a eeaman earning £18 a month. In the event of hia death his wifo will receive until her death or until eho re-marries, £90 per annum, and ouo twenty-fourth c>f his pay in respect to each child. There is also compensation for loss of effects, and I have information of an instance in which an offioer of a New Zealand vessel, which was lost off the Lizard through enemy action, received as compensation under the schemo £50 for loss of effects. This will show that most of the details have been gone into thoroughly under tho British scheme." Mr Wilford adds that he hao undertaken that if any dependants of those who were lost inthe Aparima put in claims in New Zealand ho will forward them to the proper authorities in England, in order that compensation shall bo paid under the scheme as outlined.
