Tho Mayor of Woolston (Sir McGregor Wright) feelingly referred at last night's meeting of tho Woolston Borough Council to the death of the late Cr. W. J. Trerise, and moved a vote of sympathy with Mrs Troriso and family in their bereavement. Cr. J. C. Hobson referred in terms of high praise to tho good qualities of the deceased councillor, and emphasised the loss that tho borough had sustained by his death. Remarks highly appreciative of tho late councillor's character and actions were also mado l>y other councillors, after which the motion was carricd in silence, councillors standing. A largo number of Amberley residents met on Saturday evening to bid farewell to Mr H. A*. Deigliton, manager of the Bank of New South Wales, who has been promoted to Whangarei. Mr G. I>. Greenwood occupied tho chair. Several toasts were honoured. Mr Greenwood referred to the sterling dualities of tho guest, who had assisted in all patriotic work, and filled tho offico of treasurer to the Racing Club and ths > Breeders' Association. His kindly advice and courtesy to the business and > farming communities was greatly appreciated. On behalf of the residents of Amberley, tho chairman then handed 1 Mr Dvighton a purse of sovereigns and a Kaiapoi rug. Mr Deighton suitably replied. Mr H. Coleman, who was piv- ' sent on a visit from the North Island, | extended a hearty welcome to Mr ' T?oighton on behalf of tlio residents of > Whangarei.
