AMBERLEY EWE FAIR.
BIG UN-TRIES AND TRICES
There was a very large attendance of buyers from all over North. Canterbury, and from as far .south as Geraldine, at the annual ewe fair held at Amberley yesterday. The fair was held in excellent weather, and the dust nuisance was almost non-existent. The entry vras an exceptionally large one. t-otalling 31,719 ewes and lambi, as against 23.700 last year. In sfito of the excellent stock season, the opinion of experts is that the sheep did not come into the pens in any better condition, on the whole, than was the case last year, but nevertheless the condition of the great majority was very good indeed, and no exception could be taken to the demand, which wn.s exceedingly keen. Mr Gerald Stead topped the market with a line of 100 even and well-grown two-tooth halfbred ewes from Brackcnfield, which chaJiged hands at 15s yd per head—the same price as last year's record. The bulk of the yarding consisted of hallbreds. though three-quarterbreds were also welJ represented. Tlx? enquiry for practically everything ottered was insistent., and in few cases did the auo tioneei-s have to strain tlue time limit. The raJige of prices was as follows: — Two-tooth half bred ewes, 31s 6d to
