LATE SPORTING.
DESERT GOLD AND BIPLANE. A HATCH DESIRED. (By Cable.—.freso Association.—Copyright.) (Received March 3rd, 11.15 p.m.) SYDNEY, March 3. A proposal is mooted to arrange a meeting between Biplane and Desert Gold in Australia, and is arousing considerable interest. The "Sun" states a cablegram to Mr O. D. Greenwood brought a reply that, after Biplane'® defeat by Estland at Wanganui, the colt was nt present unfit to compete against Desert Gold. Mr T. H. Lowry, interviewed at Melbourne, raised the difficulty of getting two such performers fit and well by a given date. He did not at present feel disposed to consent to such a proposal, because anything might happen before the actual day of the contest. A suggestion has been made that a special meeting should be arranged at Randwick, onj event being a match between the two champions. It is claimed that it would be a grcat attraction, provide recompense for both owners, and yield a large profit for patriotic funds. One difficulty is that ths Commonwealth Government ha« decided to grant no new racing dates. The A.J.C. has no spare dates, and under the new decision it could not. without special Government sanction look for a new one. '
