Mr W. W. Mcßae is gazetted a trustee for the Hurunui rabbit district, vice Mr G. Rutherford, resigned.
Mr A. S. Palmer is gazetted registrar of electors and returning officer for the electoral district of Christchurch East.
The members of tho local Bar will extend a welcome to Mr Justice Herdman at tho Supreme Court at 11 a.m. to-day.
Mr J. Wyn Irwin, master in charge of tho Normal District High School, lia-c obtained his . M.A. degree, with second-class honours in eoonomics.
Dr. Stevens, Dr. Will, Mr P. Selig, Mr E. Cuthbert, and Father Cronin were passengers from Wellington by Saturday's ferry steamer.
Mr E. J. Edwards, of the Blenheim office of the Public Works Department, has received notice of promotion to tho position of chief clerk of tho State Coal Mines Office, Greymouth.
Tho Rev. W. A. Keay, curate of St. Mark's, Wellington, has accepted the parish of the Holy Sepulchre, Auckland, rendered, vacant by tho death of the Rev. A. H. Col vile.
Mr G. L. Douglas Macanl, representing the Fisk Jubilee Singers, passed through Christchurch, on his way south, on Saturday. The company will appear in Christchurch next month.
Sir F. L. Sorerne, senior clerk, Education Department, has been appointed returning officer for the purpose of conducting tho election of members of the General Council of Education. The elections will be held on May 13th.
Messrs P. I>. Acland (Suva, Fiji), J. S. Evans (Nelson), J. Maling (Mayor of Timarn), R. Milligan (Mayor of Oamaru, and W. Brown (Wellington), were among Saturday's visitors to Christchurch.
Mr Arthur H. Vile, editor _of the ' r Wairarapa Age," who sustained injuries to his leg over a month ago as the result of a motor-car accident, is still confined to his room, though he expects to be able to get about by the aid of crutches in the courso of a few days.
It is understood that Mr A. N. Burns, M.A. (president of the New Zealand Educational Institute), at present headmaster at the Lower Hutt District High School, has been appointed a temporary Inspector under the Education Department to assist in the Wellington Education District. Mx W. N. Dempsey, who has been headmaster at the Eketahuna District High School for the past 17 years, and who will shortly retire on superannuation, has been appointed to succeed Mr Burns at Lower Hutt.
The Very Rev. Dr. Kennedy, formerly Rector of St. Patrick's College, left Wellington on Saturday to take cnarge of the seminary at Greenmeadows. On Friday night, at the college, he was accorded a formal farewell by the boys and staff, the new rector, the Rev. Father Gilbert, SJVI., presiding. Father Gilbert spoke in glowing terms of the excellent work done on behalf of tho college by Dr. Kennedv during the last nine or ten years. They all regretted exceedingly his departure. The boys read an appreciative address to Dr. Kennedy, and on their behalf the latter was presented with a. roller-top desk. Members of the staff and a large number of students heartily cheered Dr. Kennedy as the train drew out of the Thorndon station on Saturday.
