FIRES.
+ At 11 a.m. on Saturday the sudden appearance of two motor fire engines in the Square caused some mild excitement. Tho alarm was given for the Royal Exchange Buildings, and on investigation it was found that a fused electric circuit in a wooden conduit had caused a beam in the wall of a room on the first floor to char and smoulder. The matter was quicklv rectified by means of a hand chemical extinguisher, and very little damage was done. On Saturday evening, lire caused slight damage in tho kitchen of 111 Kilmorc street, a two-storeyed house of six rooms, owned by Mrs Hunter and occupied by Mr F. Hichens. There is an insurance risk of £140 on tho contents in the Royal Office. (PRESS ASSOCIATION' TELEGRAM.) WANGANUI, March 3. A fire at five o'clock this morning gutted the offices of J. Annabell, purveyor, and destroyed a 30 years' accumulation of plans and records. Water flooded the offices of William Hall, accountant and secretary of the Jockoy Club, considerably damaging the books and stationery. Water ako damaged the stock of paper in Cobb and Irwin's, printers, next door. Annabel! was uninsured, but Hall had a risk of £ ICO in the New Zealand office.
