I + — A FARMER'S DEATH. George Ironside, of HorrelviUe near Oxford, was found dead wi th lis throat cut, and a gunshot wound in his chest : on Thursday evening. Mrs Ironside . and family were staying at New Brighton. Mr Ironsides was about 40 years of age x and leaves a wifo and family of five_ children. A neighbour saw him a little after 3 o'clock on Thursday . afternoon, and he then appeared ail f right. About 4.30 p.m. a boy employ- . e<f on the farm went into the house and found him lying across a bed with his throat cut. He went for assistance, and when he and others returned Mr Ironsides was dead. He .had evidently secured a gun in the lad's absence, ana shot himself in the chest. J. Archibald, employed by Mr W. Williamson, contractor, Kaiapoi, susI tained an injury to his spine yesterday as a result of falling off a dray near Belfast, on the road from Kaiapoi to ( Christentrrch. Ho was oo«veyed to his home in Miller street, Sydenham. A middle-aged man was knocked down by a motor-car in Papanui road last . night, and taken to the Hospital in an unconscious state. Ho had not regained consciousness at an early hour this j morning. His identity is unknown. i :
