WAIPARA COUNTY ROADS.

TO THE EDITOB OF "THE PRESS." Sir, —I see that the Waipara County Council are going to erect a cottage .Hospital. May 1 suggest that instead of naving it at WaiKari, it would be more central at Waipara, as. at that place tney would be able to treat all cases of nervous breakdown, shock, dislocations, and contusions wnich happen on the road from. Kaikoura as well as .on the roacl from Waiau. I said "road," Sir. Do you see tho point? Possibly not if you have no occasion to travel between the two wire fences which enclosc land from the Waipara bridge as indicated by a finger post thus: ''To Cheviot and Kaikoura," and 'To Culverden, Hanmer Springs, Waiau, and Kaikoura." As the "Waipara County Council appear to have large funds in hand wnich they are prepared to spend on anything but the upkeep of roads (in, my foolishness I had an idea that that was the main purpose for which they were elected) I should also like to suggest that a fully equipped garage, with an expert, be also erected at Waipara to mend, free of cost, springs, etc., of cars or carriages which may be damaged by dropping into holes in the tracks between tho wire fences as aforesaid. As an adjunct, I might suggest a duly qualified parson to absolve the traveller of the ornamental blasphemy with which he has bespattered the County Council and their immediate progenitors for distances aggregating several hundreds of miles. I don't ask for an abler pen than mine to help in this matter, but if anyone with an abusive tongue would kindly attend the next dozen meetings of the County Council and let them have it hot and strong we might possibly get something done, otherwise we shall still be listening to talk, talk, talk, till the cows come home, thank goodness, across paddock, not clambering out of abysses and pitfalls on the Roads— I said "Roads," Sir, and I repeat it. Come and tir them.—Yours, otc., VIATOR.
