The Te Ana'u left Tokomaru Bay yesterday morning with a full load of sheep for JLiyttelton. The collier Kamona, with coal from the West Coast, is expected to arrive at this port to-night. The Huia, now en route from Wellington to Dunedin, will enter the Danedin-Invercar-gill trade for several weeks. Mr A. R. Pryde, third officer on the Nga/kuta, Mas exchanged positions with Mr J±all, second officer on the Ngahere. The Corinna will probably arrive hero from southern ports next Friday, sailing the same day for Wellington, Nelson, and New Plymouth. The Calm arrived here yesterday from Pigeon Bay, where 6he discharged a load of sheop, and left Lyttelton lust evening for Dunedin. The AVcstpori Harbour Board has a»k:d the Government to send down it& engineer to Westport to look into thci question of river encroachment abovo the Bul!er bridge, because the Board has no power to expend money there, and, besides, its engineer is awav with the Expeditionary Forces on tho Western front. The dredge Murihiku, which is leaving Bluff for Port Chalmers this week to go ou tbo slip for overhaul, will bo a ship of captains. Even tbo chef, or the man who handles the frying-pan, can, if necessary, take over the navigation of the ship and produco his ticket as an accredited master mariner, states the "Bluff Press." Mr T. R. Tripe, manager for the Union Steam Ship Company at llaunceston, has arrived in New Zealand. A WRECK INDICATOR. An invention which, it is claimcd, will locate tbo position of vessels wrecked and sunk in any depth of water, is now being constructed at Messrs Humble .and Son's engineering works at Geelong, Victoria, and it is expected that the machine will bo completed before the end of April, when a trial test of its efficacy will be mado' in Port Phillip Bay under the supervision of experts of the Navy Department and officials of the Federal Government. It is stated that if tho machine is fitted to a vessel which is afterwards sunk, an indicator will rise to tho surface and show, not only the actual position of tho wreck and its depth in fathoms, but also the date on which it was sunk.
