(Received February 28th, 8 p.m.) WASHINGTON, February 27. America is carrying out a colossal shipbuilding programme. Within a few weeks a great number of destroyers, merchantmen, and submarines will be under construction at the Philadelphia and Boston shipyards. Since November the Government has converted a large barren island in the Delaware river into the biggest shipyard in the world, and has also created a town of 20,000 inhabitants on +he island. This yard assembles parts manufactured at 1000 factories. It is anticipated that the island will turn out 50 ships of 8000 tons in 1918. After September it will finish a merchantman every two daj - s. JEWISH CONTINGENT ENROLLED. (Itoutcr's Telegrams.) (Received February- 28th, 8 p.m.) NEW YORK. February 27. A Jewish contingent, drawn from various cities, has been sworn into the British Fusiliers, and is proceeding oversea to join the Zionists and form the nucleus of a Jewish army.
