Pemberton, Mr Robert Bell, and Mr C. East were passengers from Wellington ly yesterday's ferry steamer. Dr. Sydney Allen left Dunedin yesterday morning for Wellington on active service. Ho leaves later on for England, where he will be engaged on special surgical work, including orthopedics. Mr Peter Barr. who is a member of Commission on Defence Expenditure, returned from Dunedin yesterday, where he had been on the business of the Commission in connexion with a certain hospital ship. Mr J. Caradus, who has been on the staff of the Bank of New South Wales m .Nelson for the past four years, has b ® e '» transferred to the inspector's staff, Wellington. Prior to taking up Jus appointment, Mr Caradus will re-1 heve the manager of the Bank rt Ua verier. His Alajesty's Trade Commissioner in New Zealand (Mr R. W. Dalton) haa received instructions from 'the Imperial Government to go to the Pacific IBlands for tho purpose of making an investigation into their present commercial position and future trade prospects. He expects to leave for Suva t m a few weeks' time. The employees of the Sumner Borough Council met last night to bid farewell to one of their fe]low-©m-ployees, Mr 6. Orr, _ who is leaving for Wellington, after being on the borough staff for over eleven years. Tho town clerk (Mr C. Dash) presided, and the members of the Works Committee were aiso present. The chairman referred to Mr QrrV faithful .services, and, on behalf of ,his comrades, presented him with ftj silver-mounted Gladstone bag. .Mr Orr' suitably responded. The evening took th© form of a smoking concert. : The meeting of the World's Press Congress at Sydney has now been definitely fixed for April 21st, 1919. Advice has been received that the • Dominion of Canada will be officially represented thereat by a delegation of :five well-known and duly accredited wwspaper men, and Mr A. F.
