'I'lie extent of tho rainfall may | l)o ganged by the estimate arrived at 1 by Air Sexton, Chief Engineer, at Mac- ! kav ; 06 inches of rain'fell in 70.hours, j and. taking the limited area of 60.milcs i along the coast, by 30 miles inland, i ihe volume of water which:fell in those 70 hours is calculated at COOO million tons. Members of tho Board, after reaching Tounsviile, proceeded 190 miles west to a point about 10 miles from Torrens Creek. Hero they found that topographical changes had occurred. A lake or lagoon has been formed that promises to be a permanent feature of tho landscape. This piece of water is about a mile by three-quarters of a mile in dimensions, and has now a . depth of some 10 feet. Since tho railway line was b.iilt 35 years ago this portion had never before been flooded.
