Selig) an his opening address referred to the war, and expressod tho hope that peace would speedily be brought about with honour to our Colours. Ho reviewed tho work of the Association during the past yoar. He referred to the deaths of Mr W. Gothard, who represented the "Westport Times;" Mr Gardiner, of the "Rotorua Chronicle;" Mr "VV. Lane, editor of tho "New Zealand Herald;" Flight-Lieutenant Leslie Brett, a son of Mr Arthur Brett, of tho "Auckland Star;" and Private List, a brother of Mr T. C. List, of the "Taranaki News." A resolution of sympathy with tho bereaved was carried, all standing. Mr Selig reforred at length to the matter of news paper supplies, and the difficulties confronting the members of the Association in this connexion. He also instanced the strain tho newspaper offices were feeling owing to depleted stairs, and mentioned that the calling up of the Sccond Division waß accentuating the position. decided to wait upon the "rime Minister with a view to securing more paper by tho mail boats. At the evening session, Mr W H George, chairman of the lied Triangle Appeal, with Mr A. Varney, national secretary, waited upon members to lav * hem the urgent needs of the 1.A1.C.A., and solicit the support of ihe newspapers in their effort to make we appeal - successful.' - The election of officers resulted • President, Mr P. Votes of thanks were passed to tho Minister of Defence for his invitation to visit Trentham and Featherston camps; to the president, and secretary; to Mr F. Pirani, tho Association's representative in labour arbitration mattors; and to those institutions which luid extended hospitality to the visiting delegates. EMPIRE PRESS UNION. (press association telscbam.) WELLINGTON, February 26. Tho annual meeting of the New Zealand branch of tho Empire Press Union was largely attended bjr pressmen from all parts of tho Dominion. The chairman (Mr G. Fen wick) delivered an interesting speech on tho objects and work of the union. A discusion took place on his motion for tho adoption of the report and balance-sheet. Mr Fenwick was re-elected chairman, and tho retiring, committee was also re-elected.
