OBITUARY.
SIR HENRY BLAKE. (By Cable.—PreßS Association.—Copyright.) (Router's Telegrams.) LONDON, February' 24. The death is announced of Sir Henry Blake. The late Sir Henry Arthur Blake was born at Corbally, Limerick, on January 18th, 1840, and was educated at Dr. St. John's academy, Kilkenny, and Santrv College; entered the Royal Irish "Constabulary, Fobruary, 1859, and became Resident Magistrate in 1876. He was one of the five Special. Resident Magistrates (now Divisional Commissioners), selected in January, 1882, to concert and carry out measures fqr the pacification of Ireland. He was Governor of Bahama 1884 to 1887; Governor of Newfoundland 1877 to 1888. in which year lie was appointed Governor of Queensland, but resigned his commission on return to England. He was appointed Captain-General and Governor-in-Chief of Jamaica, January, 1889, where ho presided over the Legislative Council till February, 1893, when Dr. Phillips was appointed in his place. In 1897 he left Jamaica for Hong Kong, of which ho was then appointed Governor. He became Governor of Ceylon in 1903, and retired in 1907. ;
