Other councillors suggested that the, matter should b* leforred to the Finance Committee, as the amount, was public money, of which the Council wcro the trustees. In lvp'v to quo-tions, the Mayor (Mr H, Hdland) said th.it so far as ho knew Boveridge, who was chief engineer of the destructor at the time of his enlistment, was receiving £'o per week, and, according to the Council's recent decision, lie -would b> receiving 30s a week army pay and the Council won hi be making up tho remainder. It was characteristic of the man the offer he had made. Ho was too generous to ask for money he had not earned. The Council should not discriminate between one of its employees on active scrvico and another.
Ultimately it was decided to refer, the matter to the Finance Committee.
