♦- KAISPOI CLUB. The Kaiaipoi Defence Rifle Club eowsluded the third and final Ashley competition on Saturday afternoon, the conditions being 10 ehots at 600 yds and 11 shots at 700 yds. How Turkish rule has thwarted sanitary improvements in Jerusalem may bo seen from the fact that most of the inhabitants obtain their drinking water from rain-water cisterns, and the remainder from springs and wells, icc so far back as 1874 the Baroness Burdett-Coutts offered to Epend £25,000 on modern waterworks for the Holy City, provided the authorities undertook to find the £500 or £600 a year necessary for upkeep.'
