I IN exercise of tho powers vested in me by the Animals Protection Act, 1909 (hereinafter called "the said Act"), I, Arthur William de Bri'.o Savilo, Earl ol Liver. pool, the Governor-General of tho Dominion of Now Zealand, do hereby make tho |ol- . lowing regulations : proscribing the deerehooting season in the North Canterbury ' . Acclimatisation DistricV'.-uhd the conditions affecting- the same, and abo "ho form* of liccnao and tho fee payable therefor. REGULATIONS. \ ' 1. RED-~>EER stags may .be taken ox killed within that part of the North Canterbury Acclimatisation District described ' in the First Schedule hereto from the let day of April, 1918, to the 15th day of May, , 1918 (both days inclusive). 2. Licenses to take or kill euch deer may bo issued by the Chief Postmaster at Christ, church, npon the recommendation of tho secretary of tho North Canterbury Acclimatisation .Society, on payment of a license foe of £5, in tho form prescribed in the Second Schedule hereto, and subject to tho said Act, and theso regulations. Tho number ■ of such licenses to be icsuod by the said Chief Postmaster shall not exceed fifteen. Provided that not njoro than one such license shall be issued to the same person; and also that if tho number of applications received for licensee oxceeds tho number of available licensee, "then the persons to whom such licenßOs ore to be issued shall be dccided by ballot. 3. No licensee shall take or kill more than three stags, and no stag shall be killed carrying antlers with less than-ten. points. Ball cartridge only to be used; provided that no metal-patched or metal-cased bullets shall bo used for killing such deer. 4. No hind or fawn shall be taken or killed on any pretext whatever; and no licensee shall allow any dog to accompany either himself or any attendant he may have with him. 5. Nothing herein contained shall extend ; • to authorising any person to sell any deer .... or portion thereof. 6. Regulations as to deer "tags," per. "New Zealand Gazette" No. 40. Vol. 1., of 20th May, 1909, page 1408, shall be strictly adhered to by each licensee, who, in addition thereto, shall return all unused "taga" to tho secretary of the North Canterbury Acclimatisation Society, Cjhristchuioh,. immediately ho has finished* stalking lor the season for which such, "tags" have beep issued, together with a statement of thi number of deer shot. _ i_ « 7. Any person committing a breach of any of these regulations shall oe liable, on conviction, to a fine not exceeding £20. FIRST SCHEDULE Rakaia Gorge Deer Forest. The watershed of the Rakaia on the north side of the main stream from Lake Coleridge to the main alpine range. SECOND SCHEDULE.
