ADVANCE ON JERICHO. BRITISH REACH CITY OUTSKIRTS. (By Cable,—Press Association. —Copyright.) (Australian and N.Z. Cable Association.) LONDON, February 21. TIIO British have readied the outskirts of Jericho. Tile High Commissioner reports:— LONDON, February 21. A Palestine official report states: — ''be have approached within four iniles of Jericho, on a frontage of seven and three-quarter miles." Jericho lies 15 miles north-east of Jerusalem, and eiccht miles north of the head of the Dead Sea. OBSTINATE RESISTANCE ENCOUNTERED. LONDON, February 21. A Palestine official report states: — Our advance eastward of Jerusalem was resumed yesterday. Despite heavy rain storms in difficult country, and the enemy's obstinate resistance, Ave progressed three and a half miles on a front of eight miles, to within four miles of Jericho. Simultaneously we advanced a mile on a front of four miles westward of Jerusalem, on the Nablus road. The r.ir service co-operated, and bombed camps and depots 10} miles east and north-east of Jcrieho. Our losses on Tuesday were very slight. Yesterday's casualties have not yet been reported. The operations continue.
