TIMBER AND COAL YARDS' DISPUTE.
CONCILIATION COUNCIL PROCEEDINGS. The_ dispute between the Canterbury Timber Vard», Sawmills, and Coal Yards KmpJoyeea* Union and the employers was heard before the Conciliation Council yesterday, Mr W. H. Haggcr, Conciliation Commissioner, presiding. Tho employers wer e represented by Messrs H. Broadhead (agent), \Vm. Goss, C. E. Otley, P. M. C. Cleary (assessors), and tho union by Messrs Hiram Hunter, James Wright, and John Foster. The parties had arrived ot an agreement on all points. XTie principal alterations (as compared with the previous award! were in connexion with wages, and were as follows (old rat«s in parentheses):— Firet-claas machinist Is 6d per hour (Is sd); secondclass machinists Is Id (le 3d): other workers at machines over 2l years,of age Is 3d (Is JJd); first ewayer Is Ci, (Is sd); other sawyers Is 4d (la 3d); tailcrs-out over 21 ■"-ears of age Is 3d (Is lid); head yardman £3 5s pc- week (£3 3e); orderman £3 (£2 15a); all other workers (.in timber and coal yards'; over 21 years of age Js 3d per hour (Is'HdV casual labourers Is 3id (Is 2Jd); sawvers in coal yards to be paid v.oi lees than Is 4d (Is 2id). Wages, including overtime, arc to be paid weekly, on Friday, but in the event of Friday being a. bank holidav to be paid on the previous day previous to such holiday. Carters:' wages —Single-horse drivers £2 12s pßr week (£2 12s); two or more horses £3 2s (£2 16s). The award is to operate in Canterburv north of the Rakaia River, and is to continue in force for two years from a date to be fixed by the Court.
