At a sitting of tho Senate Committee, which is enquiring into the sale of intoxicants to soldiers, tho State Commandant said ihat of tho whole of tho men who ,had enlisted in Tasmania, only 1191 had failed 'to go to the front. Drink had not to any extont interfered with the Efficiency of Tasmanian troops. He favoured a wet canteen for the salo of drink of reduced strength, and tho introduction of the Anti-Shouting Act. KEEPING DOWN PRICES. MELBOURNE, February 22. A regulation prohibits any agreement among traders to increase tho prices of supplies. QUEENSLAND POLITICS. BRISBANE, February 22. The Nationalists' policy includes an elective Upper House, discouragement of State industries, and an early opportunity for tho electors to express their viow on 6 o'clock closing.
