OBITUARY.

Mr Maurice Hickey, whose death oe- ; currcd a few days ago at tho age of So I years, was one of the oldest residents : of Blenheim, where he mado his homo shortly after his arrival in the Marlborough district some 62 years ago. Mr Robert Reid, a well-known resident, died at the Uore Hospital on Tuesday. The late Mr Reid, who was in his 66th year, was born in Aberdeenshire, Scotland, and came out to Southern -New Zealand in the ship Nelson in 1383. After contracting on the Castle Rock estate and in the Five Rivers district for some years, ho took "P a farm in the Waiknka Valley in 1897. On this property ho opened the well-known Willinvbank coalpit, which during the dredging boom supplied great quantities of lignite to tho dredges in tho district. Disposing of his at Willowbonk about 1907, decer. sed removed to the Riversdalo district, where ho had since resided. Mr Reid is survived by his widow and four sons. The death is announced of Mr D. B. Harris, tho well-known l J a!nn.-rstou North chemist. The late Mr Harris was 60 years of age. He was born in Swansea, Wales, .in 183S, where his father, tho Rev. "William Harris, was a popular clergyman. Educated at Aberystwyth, the Welsh University, he later qualified as a chemist. lie came to New Zealand in 1574 in the ship Xorral, settling in Invercargill, but later removed to Wellington, where he commenced business in "Willis street in 1886. He sold his business and went to Australia three years later, returning to New Zealand in 1890, establishing a business in Ralmerston North. He took a keen interest in sport, and was a memlter of the Manawatu Racing Club. During his sojourn in Australia Mr Harris married Miss Louise Thompson, of Brisbane. a well-known vocalist of that city. Their only son, Victor Harris, a violinist of great promise, died some years ago while undergoing his musical training in England. j
