THE ART OF SELLING.

There was a splendid attendance at the Chamber of Commerce .yesterday evening, when Mr .Andrew Deer, instructor to the New Zealand Sheldon School of Business Science, lectured on "The Art of Selling." The lecture was a special introductory one, setting forth an outline of a brief course in j salesmanship, as taught by the Sheldon schools and institutes throughout the world. Commencing by impressing on liis hearers the Sheldon slogans "The science of business is the science of service," and "He profits most who serves best," Mr Deer explained that the philosophy of profit hinged on service, which ho said should be the keynote of every man's life. The lecturer briefly dealt with, the special classes which were being formed'in New Zealand to study salesmanship, and said that sixteen centres were already at work in New Zealand studying the science of business. In connexion with these centres he mentioned that the average age of the students was over 36, and that many of them were men in executive positions, anxious to improve their., business methods.
