A GENERAL ELECTION.
LABOUR COUNCIL'S REQUEST.
(SPECIAL TO "THE PHESS.")
'D-UNEDIN, February 21
At a conference of delegates convened by the Otago Labour Council, «t which 61 delegates were present, it was decided that, in view of the serious misgovernmcnt of tho country, and seeing the discontent of the people, it ■was imperative that a general election should bo held this yoar. The Otago blanch of the Amalgamated Society of Carpenters and Joiners, representing ol>o members, has also forwarded the following resolution to the Prime Minister:—"This branch of the society calls upon the Government to make a public pronouncement upon tho Hii>;ect of a gcnural eloction, which should be held this year, as we are of opinion that the people of Now Zealand should no longer bo deprived of their constitutional rights in being prevented from having an opportunity of electing their representatives for the future government of the country."
