BOROUGH COUNCILS.
AKAROA. The fortnightly meeting cf the Akarca Borough Council vras held oil .Wednesday. Present —The Mayor (llr Geo. Armstrong), Councillors Davie. Leete, Monro, Williams, Stewart, Wilkins. Macfarlaae, and lierridge. A letter w&a received from the ilanawatn County Council, covering resolutions calling the attention of the Government to the increased wear and tear on roads by motor traffic as the result of the withdrawal of race trains, and asking the Council to support its action- in eoeking some financial con6ider&tiou from the Government. The letter was received. The Postal Department wrote in regard to the shifting and the better lighting of the town clock. It was decidcd to make no change. ' The Council of the Firo Underwriters' Association forwarded copy of revised electric wiring rules. It waa stated that rates amounting to £46 13a were ati!l outstanding. It was resolved that, after the nest Council meeting, they bo sued for. Mr Herbert Capes, Lako Coleridge Power House, waa appointed borough electrical engineer. Cr. Wilkins, os chainnaji of the Lighting Committee, submitted a lengthy rconvt .outlining conditions lor the 6upply, installation, and upkeep of meters in conr.cxiau with the electric light scheme. —Adopted. The finance report showed: —Receipts i' 323 12s 2d, electric light account, dr. £2172 l'Js id, wharves accouJit, cr. £303 Its <d, general account, cr. £.'! ]Ss Od, overdraft Bjmk of Xew Zealand £1860 2s 3d. The report win adopted.
