ACCLIMATISATION SOCIETY.
♦ MEETING-OF COUNCIL. The Council of the North Canterbury Acclimatisation Society met last night, the president. Dr. C. M. Anderson, being in tho chair. Mr Fuller, for the Cylinder Committee, reported that letters had been received from thirteen societies in the Dominion with reference to the propositions regarding tho reintroduction of the uso of cylinders. Seven of the replies were favourable to tho Canterbury Society's proposals, and six against them, while Auckland had not yet rep'ied. There eeemed to be no chance of getting *iny legislation through during tho next session of Parliament, and a conference was suggested as advisable. Tho report was adopted. The Marine Department forwarded the regulations gazetted to control netting in Lake Ellcsmere, and a letter was received from tho Minister of Marine referring to tho regulations made to prohibit "stroke hauling" for fish ir. Dominion rivera. The Tourist Department wrote with reference to the proposal to liberate Californian quail in tho Hanmer district. Mr A. P. Smith had the opportunity of obtaining a number of quail from "the Awatero district. Ho would pack them from Mlolesworth to Hanmer free of charge, and Mr Morrison, the Society's representative in the district, would also assist. The Society was aeked if it would holp in the matter. It was decided to obtain particnlara as to the cost of the echemo before committing the Society. The Curator. Mr D. Hope, reported on the work done at the gardens during the month, •which had been of a routine nature. The report was adopted. ' The financial statement showed that, on February 20th, the or. balance was £115 2s Sd.
