MR G. J. MUELLER. fnirs? association" telegram.} AUCKLAND, February 20. Tho death is announced of 3*fr Gerhard John Mueller, ex-Commissioner of Crown Lands for Auckland, and exAssistant r_'a r vcyo r-Genera 1, aged 83 years. He had boon in New Zealand "sinco 1858, and had been connected with the civil service since 1865. News has been received of the death in Scotland of an old "Wellington identity, Mr James Maokay. In the early days, Mr Mqckay kept a furniture shop in Brandon street, but sold out many years ago, and sinco then lived a retired life. lie was a familiar figure on the Thorndon Bowling Club's green, and at the Central Club, and spent most of his spare time travelling between New Zealand and the Old Country. He died in Scotland, the country of his birth.
