PUBLIC HEX'S TRIBUTES. (SrECIAL TO "I'HE TRESS.") DUNEDIN, February 19. The following telegrams of appreciation of the late Dr. H. D. Bedford have been received :— The Prime Minister: —By his death the Dominion has lost one who was an earnest advocate of reform in many of the activities of.public life. Although not always able to agree-with the views be strongly held on public questions, it must be conceded that he was at all times actuated by high principles and an earnest desire to improve the social and moral well-being of the community. Sir Joseph Ward :—Although lie was not' born in New Zealand, he was educated iu the Dominion, and was a brilliant student of political economy, and a man who took a very prominent part in the public life of New Zealand. His death removes from tho .public arena a young man whom the country could ill afford to lose. i Sir .Tames Allen:—A young and prof nisiiig life has been lost' to the university of the Dominion. Sir Robert Stout: —By his devotion to economic and social scicncc, I had hoped that he would do much as a teacher for our country. lam sure that his loss will be felt, for he was over anxious to use his talents for New Zealand's social advancement.
