1 POULTRY CLUB. At a meeting of the Christchurch Poultry, Pigeon, Canary, end Cat Club, Mr C. Cxissen, Government Poultry Instructor, wrote statmg that ho was willing to act as I judgo of the tabl© poultry and egga. Tlie I following were elected judges for the annual show: —Messrs F. C. Brown and E. W. Haiv?cc, heavy breeds in tlic utility eection; T. H. -jonee, can ar ice; H. S. Kvle, toy dogs; Gooseman ana P. Begg. cats; r'. Wilson and Hewitt. Working Homers. Tho South Island Poultry Association -wrote asking the club to support ibs art union, for 1918. It was agreed to do so. Permission was grafted the Canary Club to use the club rooms ' for its young bird show next month. The life members reported that Fril) pigeons . would compote for'the Macquarie Challenge Shield at the next show. ADDINGTOJv* SCHOOL COMMITTEE. At th© monthly mooting of the Adding!,on School Committee, a motion of sympathy with Mr Barns in his serious illness ms earned. A motion of condolence was passed to tho parents of the late Walter Brown, one of tha schoolboys who had benn accidentally drownod at Oamaru during the holidays. The head mas tor reported that the roll number was 669, and the average attendance 616. It was decided to send a congratulatory letter to the headmaster and thoso of the staff responsible for the rec*ni examination successes of the pupils. The recent appointment of pupil-teachcrs was severely condemned, and an emphatic protest wa»-ordered to be eent to the Board against appointing an alien and four unmatriculated pupil-tcachers, and the Board to be informed that n change would hare to be made at once, and also to urge the appointment of a probationer. It was decided to ask the Board to effect alterations at the caretaker's house and the out offices at the noy«' school. It was decided to draw the attention of the Education Department to the remuneration paid to pupilteacbers, and to urge an increase in pay, as competition in the commercial claaa proved more a-ttractivc than teaching, and better inducements should be offered to enter the teaching profession.
