INVERCARGILL, February 19. Recently Annie Casey, while returning from her home to where she was employed, disappearcd„ but turned up later, making allegations upon which a young district fanner named Samuel Muir was arrested upon a charge or rape. The charge was heard to-ciay, when the girl and eight others gave evidence. Mr A. C. Hanlon (Dunedin) addressed the Court, after which the Magistrate (Mr Cruickshank) dismissed the case, remarking that from the girl's statement it was clear to him that sne could have avoided the accused's rttentions if she had desired to do so.
