RACING AND TROTTING NOTES. (Br "Looker-Os.") Acceptances for tlie Dannevirke iixg Club's -Autumn Meeting close this evening. Hurakia. a winner of the Grand National HurdleSj lias been taken in hand again by H. Hickey after a spell or eighteen months. Word has been received that tne exOpaki trainer, Prirate Harry I'ritchard, was admitted to the Ist Loudon General Hospital on January 31st, Buffering from inguinal glands. A three-year-old gelding by Gazeley —Ransyl, owned by tTjo Gisborne sportsmen, has. been handed to H. Hickey, of Hastings, to be prepared for racing. He was bre<J by Mr Gain ft Camngton, the Poverty Bay breeder. The apprentice, N. McDonnell, wa6 suspended for a month at Hawera f pr giving unsatisfactory evidence at the enquiry into some bumping which took place m the Atkinson Memorial Stakes won by Volo. Tho Iticcarton horses that competed. at the Dnnedin Jockey Club's Meeting returned home last night. I There was not much excitemcnt about training operations at Riccarton yesterday. With the horses that raced at Wingatui still absent, comparatively few were on hand to do fast work, and their tasks were confined to short sprints. Tho plough was not suitable after the soaking it received at the end of last week, but the inside grass track filled all requirements. Thames finished strongly over six furlong 6, with Afterglow as a companion in the closing stages. Don Francisco, who got through a useful sprinting task, is getting into good shape for jumping engagements in tho autumn. ' Jeannot and Tyne were worked together, Tyno appearing to hold his companion at the end of half a mile. Daytime went freely over half a mile, and Ivilrush was too good for Jingo in a spin over the same ground. Gamecock and Sir Fanciful finished together at the end of a half-mile sprint, without being unduly hurried at tho finish. Disdainful was stretched out over half a mile, but still seems to be below the form she showed in the early spring. Comely is coming on fast, and she rattled over halt" a mile very smartly. . Gay Lad was too good for Vascular at the end of a sprint. Mr J. Grigg was present to witness the. work of his imported horse, who is coming on nicely. Vascular will probably be schooled over the steeplechase fences as soon, as they are available, and if he shapes all right he may be a competitor in the crass-country raccs at Inrercargill next month. W. Hibberd has arrived with two of Mr W. A. Nicholls's horses, which will in future bo trained at headquarters. One of them, Tremena, has already shown sped in public, but the other, a two-year-old filly by Boniform.—Brocade,, has not raced yet,. R. W. King is back. from his northern trip with Matty, who won a race, but Black Mark wa s left in. Taranaki, where J. Coyle will have charge of him in tho meantime. . Thestius has made a quick recovery from his operation, and P. McGrath will .have him in work again immediately. | The Solferino^— Hebrew Maid yearling filly, who will be trained by If. D. Jones for Mr C. W. Reid, arrived from the 'South last night. It is understood that Sir James Carroll's yearling filly by Sunny Lake — Arai-te-TJru, will go into tho stable of the North Island trainer, J. T. Jamieson. R. Emerson has in hand a couple of three-year-old geldings, owned by Mr Harvey Patterson. One of them is by Menschikoff —Vivoca, an Australianbred mare by Havoc, and the other is by Vasco —Lady Maorina, by Stepniak —Reel. Mr H. Whitney, owner of Rose Pink, which "won the Hokitika Handicap in record time, writes to the secretary of the AVestland Racing Club: —"It gives me great pleasure to acknowledge receipt of the gold medal awarded by your club in connexion with Rose Pink's record at your recent meeting. I am very pleased wfth the handsome trophy and the neatness of the modal. Tt is very acceptable in every way. I shall ho obliged if you will kindly convey my sincere thanks to yonr club members for then- happy thought." (By "Searchlight.") The track at Addington yesterday was a trifle heavy, but provided good going. W. G. Deyell rode Agnes Chief at a sound pace about two miles. The Woodburn Chief mara is to be raced at Timaru next month in the sprint events. R. J. Munro was an early worker with Ilorke's Drift, and a maiden pacer by Driftwood, hoth being sent along at half to three-quarter pace. Sunrise, iu harness, trotted a mile wiihout being driven out. He is very light in condition, and will do better when he has been built up. Sympathy was extended over two miles, registering a pleasing performance. T. G. Fox gave Truganini, Arcadian, and Red Bell half to three-quarter pace over several circuits. C. Johnston worked Bank Note without the hopples at a strong, steady pace over a long journey. Golden Peter, driven by E. Berry, did useful half-pace, and Armamenter, in the same stable, was not asked to do anything except steady jogging. Marietta (A. Cox) trotted two miles without a mistake, showing a nice turn of 6peed. Reta Peter's two-year-old sister did steady jogging at half-pace, being anxious at times to go faster. Red Heather was not driven out while covering a mile and a half. He looks nice and big, and was evidently | benefited by his short spell. Agathos, who has been taken in hand again, did walking exercise. Frank Tracey has joined C. Johnston's team, but is not likely to be seen on the track for several -weeks to oome. C. James is a regular attendant at Addington. The three-year-old colt by Petereta from an Irvington mare, a recent addition to his team, is being worked m harness in open bridle, and takes very kindly to his new surroundings. J. Deyell and D. Mahoney daily v 'sit New Brighton, and are indulging their horses in swimming exercise, prior to putting them into work at Addington next month. A. Hendricksen will pilot Serenity in the Marlborough Cup at Blenheim today. R. Reay, the New Brighton trainer,
Blenheim on Mondav. Ho wil' drive Bidens in the Marlborough Cup, and will mc!o Gold Quoen in the Dasli Handicap * • » FLEMIXGTOX TRAIXIXG XOTES.
