The Navy League have made very complete arrangomcnts for commemorating N'clson Day to-day. Lord Nelson's famous signal will be hoisted in the middle of the Square, in front of the Anglican Cathedral, and also the flags of Great Britain and her Allies, including tho British Dominions. Public bodies, clubs, and societies arc being asked to contribute wreaths and otiier floral tributes in memory of officers and luon of our Navy, and of those of our Allies, wiio have laid down their lives in our cause.
liie headmasters of schools in Canterbury have been asked to arrange for discourses to their scholars on tho significance of the day, and individuals and lirms have been requested to hoist flags of tho. British Empire and our Allies. The heads of various religious bodies in Christchurch have been asked to assist in the observance of tho dny by holding on Sunday memorial services in their several churches in commemoration of the gallant officers and men of all branches of our naval service nnd mercantile marino who have, made the supremo sacrifice during tho war. A public demonstration will take place in Cathedral square in front of tho United Service Hotel, commencing at 12-15 p.m. to-day, when his Worship the Mayor will preside. The speakers will inchtdo Mr Alexander Bovlo President of tho Xavv League, aiid Sir .17 J- Dougall, cx-Prcsidont of the League. It is intended to adopt .a resolution at tho close of tho demonstration expressing the continued confidence of the community in tho officers and men of tho British Xavy. Mr A. B"v!e president nf the V»it 'Carruo, addressed a request to B shop , , s , £l s':ing that sprcial jcrv : ces should be given in the churches in commemoration of Nelson Dav. The Bishop, while regretting that the short notice has rendered jt impossible to arrange for special services, has announced that ho concurs with the suggestion that reference to tho day should bo made by the clergy.
