The Imperial War Cabinot has, it is understood, agreed to a schemo of Empire naval development. The scheme includes the improvement of the harbours of Halifax and Esquimalt, in order thaif they may form naval bases in the Atlantic and Pacific.

April 11. • The' despatches of Admirals dc ltobcck and Wemyss on tho naval operations during tho evacuation of Gallipoli have been published. They do not throw any fresh light on the subject. A PACIFIST %VPER. "THE NATION" USED BY THE ENEMY. LONDON. April 11. The "Pall Mall Gazette*' states that tho prohibition of the export of tho periodical "The Nation" is due to the action ,of the Army Council on the ground that the enemv used extracts from the paper for propaganda purposes. The "Pall Mall Gazette adds that Mr Lloyd George has asked for information* of all facts relative to the matter. "The Nation" is edited bj Mr H. W. Massingh.im, formerly editor of the "Daily Chronicle," and a man of pronounced Radical views. A NEW EXPERIMENT. AMALGAMATION OF INDUSTRIES. (Australian and X.Z. Cable Association.) LONDON, April 11. Under Government pressure to release workmen. 17 out of 20 brewery companies in Sheffield have agreed to amalgamate. , This experiment will probably be repeated throughout the country. MEAT IMPORTS.
