DUNEDIN, April 12

The Otago and Southland draft of tho 28th Reinforcements left for Wellington to-day. The Dunodin, Milton, and Invercargill groups contributed 367 men. AN AUSTRALIAN'S APPEAL. (PRESS ASSOCIATION TELEGRAM.) AUCKLAND, April 12. A young man, a native of Australia, named Frank Kelly, a ship's cook by occupation, who was called up in tho ballot, appealed before the First Auckland Military Service Board to-day on the ground of his occupation. He had filled in tho enrolment form at a New Zealand port of arrival. He saitl that his ship was under 6ealed orders, and he* did not know ho was coming to NewZealand. He had been hero since early in March, and had been unable to leave ■with any vessel, owing to Ins being called tip. Ho had enlisted twice in Australia, where seamen were exempt, but he found himself, as an Australian subject, a New Zealand conscript. The Board granted exemption, provided he remained in his present occupation, and gave him a certificate to that effect. YESTERDAY'S ENLISTMENTS. Tho following men have for "jno? Wm. Milligan, Sockburn, labourer, Wm. Morris Belfast, farmer, married. Hy. James Hughes, Suany&ide, attendant, H. Hart, St. Asaph etrect, labonrer, single. W\ E. Nolan. King Edward Barracks, confectioner, aingle. Says the "West Coast Times": "On Saturday morning the local police arrested Lawrence Kirwan, who has been Gazetted a defaulter under Section «JO of the Military Service Act. The young man was taken on to Greymoutk by tne 1 o'clock train and went overland on Monday on his "way to Trentham.
