LAST SIGHT'S MEETING. The City Council met last ereninjr. Present—Hi3 "Worship tiro Mayor, Mr 11. Holland, and Cro. McCuUcmgh, Williams, Reynolds, Hayward, -Sullivan, Jameeon, Beanland, Taylor, Btirgoync, Cooper, Herbert, ilcComlx3, iI.P., and Otley. The eecrctary of the Soott 7XemoriaJ Fund wrote asking for a. contribution, to defray the ccafc of Sio erection, of tho to meet a email deficit which wa3 a consequence 6f the Avar. The net amount received from contributions was £1027 10s, and, as the committee had reckoned on some £1100 or £1200 (before the war broke out) it entered into a contract with I>ady Scott' to provide the memorial for £1000. In addition, Lady Scott had been paid ±'41 for marine insurance. The shipping was done free by the New Zealand Shipping Company, o.nd the Shaw, Savill and Albion Company. The coat of erection was £121 lis 3d, and in. addition inhere wa& an overdraft of £22, making a total indebtedness now of £145. It was naked that the Council vote tlu3 sum when the committee, would be able to formally hand over the memorial to tlie City Council. The Mayor said 'that he thought, all things considered, it wai reasonable to ask . the Council to vote this v amount, and place it on this year'e estimates, and he would move in that direction. The District Health Officer forwarded notices of condemnation upon certain pretrial in Essex street, Clare road, and Kuskin st real. —Received. A letter was received from the bath custodian, stating that th» arrangements made since the disaster to tho tank had enabled the Tepid Baths to" be carried on satisfactorily. The Bv-law and Finance Committee reported that of motor-car proorietors and drivers had not renewed their licenses for the current year, and proceedings were being taken aga.in.-t the.m immediately. .
