OBITUARY.
♦ •Aj liighly esteemed resideufc of Ross for the past uO Years in the person of Mr Rudolph Hirtcr died on Tuesday at the age of 91 years, savs j * a guardian." The deceased was a native of Berne, Switzer(land. He was one of the earliest arrivals at Ross, and took a prominent part m public affairs for a long period of years. He ivas Mayor of Koss for two years, 1882-83, and also filled positions as member of the Totara Road Board. Westland Countv Council, "Westland Education Board, and Ross School Committee, being chairman of the School Committee for many years. Ho leaves &. family of one daughter (Mrs G. Jv. Sinclair, wife of tho headmaster, , at Hastings School), and one son, Mr Emil Hirter, of "Wellington.
