On the recommendation of the Batha Committee, it was decided that the baths should be closed as from April ilth. The Reserves Committee recommended that the Education Board be ivsked to remove the f.irr.atile at the school, and erect a. gate.— Adopted. Trie recommendation of the Finanoe Committee to proceed against a ratepayer for the recovery of rates was adopted. The Finance Committee's report eh owed that the receipts since the previous meeting amounted to £46 Os f)d. The credit balance on the District Fund Account was £238 13s sd, and on the Electricity Account was £351 -Is 2d.—The report was adopted. The Finance Committee recommended, and it was agreed, that in connexion with the honorarium of the Mayor, details of tho I amounts paid by neighbouring bodiee in. proportion to their population should be eecured.
Tho electrical engineer reported that repairs were necessary to the Heathoote liit bridge, at a cost of £18, -apart from £7 for new wire. The Mayor said that certain parts had disappeared, and ho recommended that tho local constable be asked to make enquiries concerning them. Councillors lalley, Hobaon, and Hart all contended that the keys of the motor-houses ehould never have been handed to the Tramway Beard or anyone else, as control was vested in tho Woolston Council. It was decided that enquiries should bo made of the local constablo and o' the Tramway Board as to the missing parte. Messrs Turn bull and Jones wrote asking" for the immediate eettlement of an account for £228 Its lid, and protesting against the delay that had taken place.—The matter was referred to tho Mcclricity Committeo with power to act.
ASHBURTON Tho fortnightly meeting of -the Ash barton Boroujrh Council wae held on Tuesday evening. Present—Tho Mayor (Mr R. Galbraifch), Crs. P. L. Orr, I''. Ferriman, G. D. Hefford, R. Kerr, and. H. McElrea. The Mayor reported n debit balance 011 tho temporary loans account of .£5400, and a debit buJance aA tho Bank of New Zealand of £1568 la 7d, makLnp an overdraft of £o')G8 17s. The receipts since last meeting aggregated £438 8a 7<L Tho Town Clerk reported having issued building permits for a residence in Wills street valued at £380, and a workshop in ilona square valued at £10. Mr J. Blackler, foreman, reported that the asphalting of the seven and a half chains of the road in East street had cost £120. He considered the work had been successful, and would last for 20 yeara. Cr. Orr was asked to confer with the foreman with a view to recommending that further blocks in East street! bo done. Tho Council then eat as the Cemetery Board. .The chairman reported a debit balance at the bank amounting to £290 Ob lid, and that the receipts since last meeting bad aggregated £20 7s 6d. Cr. Ferriman. suggested that, in order to further reduce the overdraft, a small fee might bo charged, sta a permit to erect tombstones valued ai, over £20. The Mayor thought there was no; necessity for this, as the overdraft was being: gradually reduced.
