SOUTH ISLAND POULTRY ASSOCIATION.

! SPECIAT, MEETING. A special trite tm" of delegates to -the South Island Poultry, Pigeon, and Canary Association was held last night.: Mr G. E. Jeffries, the President, was in the chair, and there was a good attendance. V The speciHl business of the meeting was to consider the position of the pigeon ring question under the. new rule 50. which ran, "All pigeons under 12 months old competing in ringed classes, exhibited at affiliated ehowe, shall be ringed with a ring recognised by the Association for the current year." The receipt of two letters, one from the United Pigeon Club, and the other from the Christchurch Poultry, Pigeon and Canary Club neoeeaitated the wiolo vexed question of pigeon rings being gone into. The chairman made a long explanation of the position, and pointed out that the Council's action in issuing certain M.C.A. rings (which had- been done to cope with an urgent case) had been endorsed by the meeting of delegates at Dunedin. He admitted that the Council had committed an. error of judgement in not destroying these rings aJ Toquired to do go by a resolution paeecd by tho Association, but pleaded special circumstances. He contended that the Association had pledged its word to provide rings for clubs, and at the time tlicee were the onlyones available. A good deal of discuss km. took place cm. the matter, and Mr Walker moved that the meeting endorse the Council's action. Mr Brown moved as an amendment that tho Council be censured for issuing the rings directed to be destroyed at a special meeting held on June 3rd. The amendment was lo6t, the voting being 7 against and 3 for it, and the motion wae carried without dissent. Mr Walker further moved, with reference to the question of rule 50, "That all young birds be recognised oit any show in 1917, and also any rings with which they might be rung." This was carried, tie -President stating that that wa» tho interpretation of rule SO made by the Council. It had decided to recognise any rings at affiliated shows.
