OBITUARY.
Mr Edward T. Fricker, editor of the "Australasian," wflobo ueatn in Aloibourne was announced last week, removes one of the oldest journalists in the Dominions. Born in London in 1858, the eon of an architect and educated privately in London and Margate, his lirst employment was in the snipping business. Coming to Dunedin, ho entered journalism as a member of the reporting staff of the "Otago Daily Times," upon which he speodily made his mark. In 1889 a tempting opportunity came to Mr Fricker to join 'tho staff of tho Melbourn© "-Argus," tho proprietary of which had recognised in him a journalist of great ability, and. joining that'paper as Parliamentary reporter, he becamo in due course its dramatic critic and one of its leader •writers. In 1903 ho was appointed editor of the "Australasian," a position which is now rondored vacant by his death.
